What are veneers?
CEREC technology, also known as Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. Veneers are thin, about the size of a contact lens, pieces of porcelain that are cemented onto the front of your teeth. Each veneer is custom-made for you in a lab to ensure that the size, shape, and color are all right to help you reach your goals.
Why choose veneers?
Veneers are a great option because they are so versatile. Not only can they substitute for minor orthodontic concerns, but they also provide profound cosmetic enhancements to your smile.
Who are veneers for?
Most people are candidates for veneers. Some factors that determine your candidacy include:
- Stained teeth that can’t be fixed with teeth whitening
- Have good oral hygiene habits
- You don’t grind or clench your teeth
- Relatively straight teeth
- Multiple cosmetic concerns
If you are not a candidate for veneers, this does not mean that you will never be a candidate. Certain procedures, such as Invisalign, gum disease treatment, or tooth replacement, may be required before you can be considered for veneers. If you are not a candidate today, be sure to talk to your Austin dentist about what you can do to reach both your health and wellness goals and your cosmetic goals.
What should I expect from the procedure?
Getting veneers is not a one-visit process. During your initial consultation, Dr. Nussbaum will work closely with you to ensure that veneers are the right choice for you, assessing your oral health habits, your enamel, and your cosmetic goals.
Once Dr. Nussbaum has determined that veneers are appropriate for you, he will take impressions of your teeth and send them to the lab, where they will be custom-made. Before your Austin dentist can place your veneers, he will need to prepare your teeth, a process that involves shaving down some of your enamel to make room for the thin veneers. Once your teeth are prepared, Dr. Nussbaum will cement the veneers to your teeth.
How long do veneers last?
With proper care, your veneers can last you up to 15 years. It is important to note, however, that veneers are permanent. Because some enamel must be shaved down to accommodate the veneers, you will need them to cover your teeth for the rest of your life in order to protect the tooth underlying structure.
